Dyslexia is often referred to as specific learning difficulties that are thought to be experienced by 1 in 10 people. There is no dyslexia cure, but if you find out you have dyslexia you can get help with funding for support in the workplace or at college and university.

Dyslexia is a learning difficulty that exists across all cultures; it can be hereditary, spans all socio economical backgrounds and covers a range of abilities. It has a combination of strengths and weaknesses and persists throughout life. Dyslexia can go undetected in early childhood causing frustration and leading to other problems that disguise it. Dyslexia is sometimes seen as a hidden disability and is responsible for affecting around 10% of the population. Difficulties arise when dyslexia is not recognised and individuals continue to learn without support. Acknowledging a specific learning difference is the beginning of accepting that there is a way in which an individual can be supported in order to make tasks such as reading writing and processing easier.

Most people don’t think of dyslexia as a disability but for the purposes of law and funding, it is classed as one, which just means it is easier to get support. The funding provides equipment, resources and one-to-one support, depending on your individual needs. This can include resources such as a computer, software and one-to-one support. In order to access funding, you will need to have a full dyslexia assessment report which outlines your strengths and difficulties and identifies dyslexia.

The results of the following test will ascertain whether you may want to seek further help and advice. You can contact us at info@midlanddyslexia.co.uk or call us on 0121 270 8828.
