Dyslexia Testing for University

Dyslexia is supported through the government’s Equality Act (2010) meaning that Universities have a legal duty to support students within their establishment. There is currently funding available to support you: DSA (Disabled Students Allowance) funding for Universities.
Once you have undertaken a dyslexia assessment and submitted a diagnostic report you would be considered for extra assistance. This would enable you to have access to Specialist Tutors who could provide study skills tuition throughout your time at University and in the run up to exams by providing you with opportunities for developing study, revision and memory-recall strategies along with writing techniques. Examination provisions for dyslexic students may include the use of a word processor and extra time. Most students are entitled to 15 minutes per hour extra time.
The process of applying for DSA can take time; therefore it is advisable to have taken a dyslexia test in order to receive your diagnostic report in time to complete an application for DSA and to get it approved before you start your chosen course at University. On condition of a provisional offer you are allowed to apply several months ahead of your start date at university.
